Optical

Dark fiber

Unlit pairs where you want to own the optical layer, choose your own transponders and decide how much capacity the route carries.

Dark fiber makes sense when the capacity you need is large enough, or growing fast enough, that buying it as a service stops being economic. You take the pair, you light it, and every upgrade after that is a transponder swap rather than a new order.

We hand over documented fibre: the physical route, splice points, end-to-end loss and the handoff detail at each site. That matters, because your optical budget depends on it and no amount of marketing language substitutes for a loss figure.

If you would rather not run the optics yourself, we can light the same route as a DWDM wavelength instead, or start you on wavelengths and move you to fibre when the volume justifies it.

What is delivered

In the handover pack

  • One or two fibre pairs, single mode, terminated in your rack or a meet-me room
  • Route drawing with the physical path and the sites it passes through
  • Splice count and measured end-to-end attenuation per pair
  • Connector type and patch panel position at both ends
  • Named escalation path for faults and planned works
Maintenance

The optional maintenance contract covers monitoring, fault location and a four-hour restoration target. Planned works are notified in advance with a window you can object to.

Fit

Who takes fibre

  • Operators building their own metro or long-haul optical network
  • Data centre groups linking campuses with capacity that grows every quarter
  • Financial firms that need the shortest known path and control over every hop
  • Content networks putting several hundred gigabits on a single corridor
  • Anyone whose wavelength spend has passed the point where fibre is cheaper
Availability

Fibre availability is route by route. Send us the two endpoints and we will tell you honestly whether we have a pair, can get one, or would be better lighting it for you.

Ask about a route

Give us the two sites and the term you have in mind. You will get a straight answer on availability, loss and price.
